Hello and welcome back. Glad to hear you were able to overcome your cancer.

Make sure you have the latest forge and tfc versions. I had the same mapwriter mod error. I swapped to Journeymap which is just as good to me. Another solution might be (quoting someone else) "heres a possible fix find map writer 2.1.2 in your mods folder and delete it or move it. just get it out of the mods folder. hope it helps. (im on mac and new to mods so maybe it wont work.)"

check your forge version.

TFC Beta For MC v1.7.10 (Built using Minecraft Forge v10.13.2.1272)

Minecraft 1.7 is known to have very bad lighting calculations which are exacerbated by TFC’s 256 height worlds. As a result, minecraft may run very poorly with TFC installed. To fix this and many other issues with minecraft performance it is highly recommended that you use FastCraft by Player (http://forum.industrial-craft.net/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=10820) . This mod is optional and can be run by both a server or client to correct issues with vanilla code.
*Update* Forge v1272+ seems to do a very good job at fixing some issues with the lag in MC v1.7. I still recommend FastCraft since it only helps even more.

Get rid of whatever version of MapWriter you are using.

Install Opis-1.2.3 (http://minecraft.curseforge.com/mc-mods/73832-opis/files/2212733) and MobiusCore-1.2.3 (http://minecraft.curseforge.com/mc-mods/76734-mobiuscore/files/2212730) instead.

It will give you the same MapWriter functionality and should allow you to join the server with it.

Although I have no clue why it would prevent you from joining the server if you have a different MapWriter installed. It's a client-side mod, the server doesn't actually use it. Perhaps it's a bug in Opis or MapWriter.

Download TFC from: http://terrafirmacraft.com/download.html (I see 0.79.15 is released, not sure if server has been updated yet, so you might need 0.79.14 under older versions).
Download and install MultiMC from: http://multimc.org/

Open MultiMC, click 'Add new instance' button (should be left one on toolbar).
Give it a name like TFC b79
Set Version to: 1.7.10
Click OK

Right click the just created instance and click edit instance.
Should open up a window with on the left 'Version' selected (top of the list).
On right click install Forge
Pick the one TFC was built with (see the download page of TFC):

For good measure I personally always launch the instance to see if it starts at this point and close minecraft again.

Right click the instance again in MultiMC, edit instance again, now select Loader mods on the left.
Drag and drop the downloaded TFC jar file into the window and it should get added.
Click close and start the instance again, this should allow you on the server, but has no other mods like NEI installed or any map add-on.

Installing extra addons goes similar to how we just added the TFC mod. But be sure to download versions for minecraft 1.7.10 for those add-ons.
