View Full Version : Working on new HappyDiggers public TnFC server. Looking for testers

InsaneJ

Work has begun on a new public HappyDiggers TnFC server. As some of you may know we already host a Donor TnFC server which is currently outdated. The new public server will be replacing the Donor server. And as the name suggests, no donations are required for joining this new server.

I've generated a 100.000 x 30.000 block world. This took a long time. The server is currently being uploaded and I'll begin the process of setting up all the mods and plugins that we also use for our regular TFC servers. Since it'll be a public server we want it to use a bunch of plugins to make the lives of staff members easier. This means the server will be running on KCauldron and that means quirks and bugs. If you want to get an idea of how we run our public TFC servers, you're welcome to try our current TFC server at tfc.happydiggers.net:4000

The next step will be to start play testing. Play testing should start in one or two weeks. For this I'm looking for a couple of volunteers. Preferably veterans of the official TnFC server. Play testing means we'll spawn in a bunch of resources and player will have to sprint through the various tech trees to figure out what works and what doesn't. No time for exploration and base building at this stage. Just setting up machines, testing mechanics, that sort of stuff. We'll require people to leave a short summary or report of each play session. Nothing too complicated. Just what you did and if it worked or not: build machine X, tried mechanic Y, etc.

If anyone's interested please leave a reply and tell us about your experience with TnFC and if you're willing to do boring test work. Again, we are not looking for players at this point. If you want to play TnFC on our server, please be patient.

Me, of course :)

Although, if you do it in 2 weeks, I will not be able to play on weekends, only weekdays (I'm away from home two first weekends of December). On weekdays I can normally play about 5 hours a day. So if somebody with experience and more time volunteers, I'll pass my slot to them.

I've played on one publicly hosted TnFC (not official), we got together with my hubby (otherwise known from Ark as Bob ;) ) to the end of almost all tech mods. I've played on two incarnations of official map (alone this time), mostly focusing on Mekanism and Immersive Engineering.

I'm probably not the most experienced TnFC player, but I'm experienced, willing and I think a good tester too - I have a knack for doing non typical stuff and getting weird results ;)

I've got 11 days off in Dec starting 12/15. bday on the 16th and then much needed time to destroy my sleep cycle. i've gone through the basics pretty well and worked some advance stuff with LP (LarsonPacific). i will have the time and can learn on the way for what i do not know.

This would be awesome! I played on the official TnFC server through to lithium evaporators, pneumaticcraft drones, a bit of bees.

Boring test work? Speeding through the TnFC tree sounds like fun!

The reason for my wording is simple. I don't want people playing. I want them to test the game.

Bases should be no more than dirt shacks to keep the rain out for example. Testers should just plunk down machines and see if they work. Try to see if the Towny protection works. See if block/machine/item interactions are properly logged. That sort of stuff. No going off exploring the wilderness and building pretty stuff. Just fast progression through the various tech trees.

Also, after the testing is done, I'll uploading the world fresh so no need to worry about accidentally wrecking stuff.

I've made a bit of progress on getting the server ready. All the permission nodes, players and groups from our current server have been migrated from the flat file of PermissionsBukkit to LuckPerms database. That was quite a bit of work, but it should make our lives a lot easier in the future. Now we have 1 database with all the permission which all of our servers can use. Update the perms on one server, and all the other servers get updated as well.

Next on my list will be updating Towny and Lockette to include all of the blocks we want to be able to protect from grief and/or use. That's the last big hurdle I think before people can get started with testing.

During testing I think we should try to figure out how much stuff each town will be allowed to have. On TFC we have limitation on anvils, farm land, fruit trees, animals, etc. We need people who actually understands how TnFC works to help us figure out what's reasonable.

this was set to 100 machines i believe in the previous instance. this was for donor and may get out of control on freebie. i'm not tech savvy enough to build machines galore and test server functionality but it we say 10-20 people playing on freebie TnFC at 100 machines/person to check stability. Should check 50+ people as machines may be automated and left running.

Maybe consider anything that's a chunk loader not allowable or turn that function off?

InsaneJ

That's a given. Chunk loaders would kill the server quickly.

ZorakHavok
26th November 2017, 16:07
If you are worried about the machines that are left running, couldn't you just unload the chunks? This would solve a massive amount of problem the only problem that it would create is that item decay and crop/animal growth will not continue if someone logs off.

I would be up for testing if you require more people as I have seas of spare time before and after Christmas, however with testing most machines require some pretty advanced stuff and it will take a while to get to them which would end up in this process taking rather long, which in return is quite good due to the amount of problems that could arise.

Cheers,
Zorak

InsaneJ
26th November 2017, 17:40
Chunks are unloaded if a player isn't near them and there isn't any other mechanism in place to keep those chunks loaded, i.e. a chunk loader. TFC calculates decay based on the time after creation of the food and the environment it's in. This is why when a chunk with food in it is loaded, you can see the food for a split second before it disappears due to decay.

There isn't really a limit on how many people can participate with testing. More is better I'd say :)

We have quite a lot of stuff we need to figure out. With TFC we can run about 20 players on a server with developed towns that have a lot of animals, farm plots and TFC machinery in them. I'm fairly certain we won't be able to do the same with TnFC, unless I upgrade the server to a CPU with a much higher clock speed. Currently we're running a 14 core / 28 thread Intel Xeon at 2.4GHz. Which means we can run a lot of different Minecraft servers, but each server instance isn't super fast.

Unfortunately upgrading would mean switching to a whole new platform. Either another overly expensive Intel system, or the new AMD Threadripper. I'd really like to do that, but that would cost well over 1000 euro and the current server isn't all that old yet. So unless people are willing to do some serious sponsorship, that's not going to happen for a while. Which means we'll probably end up setting a player limit somewhere around 15 for the TnFC server. At least, I hope we can manage 15 players without getting into a lag fest. But that's something we're just going have to figure out :)

As some of you may know I've not been well the past two weeks. Because of that I haven't done much work on the new server (sorry!).

I've added most of the stuff that needs protecting with Towny and Lockette and am now generating tiles in Dynmap. Once that is done I'll select a location for the spawn building and maze, put it in and get things ready for the testers to join.

In the mean time, do me a favor and send me your Minecraft in game name so I can add you to the whitelist if you are willing to do test work.

Health issues. Family issues. Other things. You know how life goes. But fret not. The HappyDiggers TnFC server is still in development!

A bunch of config stuff got done. A suitable spawn area has been found and terraformed. And, of course, the spawn building has been placed there. Tenterro has agreed to help out and build some awesome looking bridges around spawn.

Looking good ! Can't wait to start testing. Will testers have some sort of Trello board to collaborate in setting up to-do lists and handling them ? It could be beneficial especially if people from different time zones need to collaborate without being available during the same time period of the day.

Another way to go could be to have chests with signs saying what test needs to be ran on the blocks it contains.

There could also be a test Towny protected area with some locked chests and every possible machine blocks placed down and we could try to blow it up or push with pistons or pour lava.

What ever it is I can do to help I will do.

I have been doing some single player testing and I found a fluid duplication bug with Ship's Mod.
- If you have a liquid block placed inside the structure of a docked ship. When you Launch the ship, all of the blocks previously occupied by the ship turn into a duplicated version of the fluid block. For example you can duplicate lava under water and it doesn't turn into obsidian until there is a block update.
- This could be abused to supply unlimited lava or any other fluid that can be placed as a block.

InsaneJ
1st August 2018, 16:16
Err... we're not really testing. Though I did made some progress again after not having done anything for quite some time now :B

As I've mentioned before we want to switch our permission system over to LuckPerms. That should allow us to have one set of permissions in a central database that can then be applied to all of our servers, instead of having a plain text config file on each server. This means I have to convert our current permissions from PermissionsBukkit to the LuckPerms format, which is a ton of work to do manually. I've done this a while ago and then things went idle. Because of that the converted permissions became out of date as new people joined the server and players got switched between different user groups.

So instead of doing everything manually again I've done some scripting. Now I'm able to quickly convert permissions from the old to the new and update the database with all the mutations. Since the last time I did a conversion and yesterday, 188 changes were made. That's a lot of work to do manually. So yah! for scripting.

Then I hit a bit of a snag. Although LuckPerms uses a database to store player- and permission information, it does not use that database to keep the servers synchronized. So if something would change on server A and get stored in the database, server B would remain unaware of this change even though it uses the same database. This is a bit of a glaring omission if you ask me. Instead of using the database, which you pretty much already need, the author of LuckPerms has opted to use a message broker service for this stuff instead. So yesterday I installed redis (https://redis.io/), updated LuckPerms on the TnFC and the upcoming donor FTB servers and... then it didn't quite work. While both servers have the exact same redis configuration, only the Sponge powered donor FTB server seems to be working at this point. The KCauldron powered TnFC server does not seem to work. I've posted this issue here:
https://www.spigotmc.org/threads/luckperms-an-advanced-permissions-plugin.174259/page-116#post-3098030

If anyone has any idea why the Sponge server does, and the KCauldron server does not work, I'd really like to know :B

InsaneJ
4th August 2018, 14:50
Got the redis issue fixed. It seems KCauldron uses a Java security manager which prevents LuckPerms from using Redis. It can't be deactivated through configuration. So if anyone else runs into errors such as this:

java.security.AccessControlException: access denied ("javax.management.MBeanTrustPermission" "register")
Then a workaround is to add the following to your Java settings in: <JRE_HOME>/lib/security/java.policy
On Ubuntu 16.04 with Java 8 this file is located here: /usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-amd64/jre/lib/security/java.policy

grant {
permission javax.management.MBeanTrustPermission "register";
};

Ok, so uhm. I guess we could open up the server and call it beta. People can report bugs as they go. I think. Hm. My brain is not working right now so I'll sleep on it and see if I'm not forgetting anything crucial.

InsaneJ
5th August 2018, 17:13
Permissions work differently from how I thought they did. This means I'll have to do some more research and config work to get the current servers to work as they do right now.

Initially I thought that I could put all the permissions from the Freebie TFC server combined with those of the Lobby server into the LuckPerms database. Then have all the servers use that. Unfortunately that only seems to work partially. And come to think of if, we want to use different "default" user groups for different servers. On the Freebie TFC server the default user group isn't allowed to start towns for example while on the donor FTB server they can (or will!). So it seems I'll have to make a default configuration and then add exceptions as servers require them.... or something like that.

I've copied the whitelist from the Vanilla server over to the TnFC server. This means VIP's and staff can now play on the TnFC server.

As you know we haven't done much testing yet so let me know if perms are correct, plugins work, etc.

When installing a fresh copy of TechnodeFirmacraft 3.6 I encountered a problem when joining the server. Something about fatally missing blocks and items. Turns out this was due to Forestry milk which is enabled on the server but wasn't on the client. For now I've just enabled it in my client. I don't know id TnFC actually uses the milk of that it's perhaps better to just disable it on the server so clients can join without having to modify their configs. Let me know!

Either way there seems to be a difference in config between server and client. Aren't mod packs fun? :)

ATLauncher\instances\<instanceName>\config\Forestry\fluids.cfg --> set B:milk=true

During installation when you get to choose which mods to install for your TechnodeFirmacraft instance I clicked recommended and then unchecked the Prattle chat thing because that crashed my client.

Maze works. First time I deliberately chose all the wrong answers. Made me hungry ;)

Aesthetics: above question 2 there is a missing block. And question 4 (or 3? but I think 4) is missing the "safe drop down" hint, the sign is empty. Also, one of the NPCs in the spawn area told me to go north for ark, but obviously there is no ark.

Should we focus on testing or can we play? Will the map be wiped? Also, is there a dynmap?

@Chogata's PM. New players get a kit when they first join. I think the IDs are taken from the old TnFC server so I'm not sure they are correct. Jiro set them way back when. I'll have to see if I can compare them and adjust if necessary. Or perhaps someone remembers what they got when they first joined the previous TnFC server?

I'll check the maze and adjust the signs.

Zombies not burning to death isn't something I really mind. Just build a wall or a fence around your base and light everything up inside. Do they take normal amounts of damage if you attack them?

Dourne, do you have NEI in cheat mode or in recipe mode? Cheat mode shouldn't work. Recipe mode should.

I plan on adding the donor players to the whitelist somewhere this weekend. It'll take a while to compile a list of UUIDs. I'd also like to add an isometric view to Dynmap like we have on the TFC server. This is going to take a while to render though.

Water is also spawning on land as ice blocks. lakes are losing water due to ice blocks. Zombies are destroying blocks (pumpkins, jack o laterns, fruit bushes), unless the blocks are despawning for some reason (half my fruit bushes are gone).

Starter kit has appropriate items, though perhaps not the same setup we use for TFC. The rule book, a stick, 8 rocks, and 2 empty water jugs are given upon initial spawn. Giving food doesn't work via commands very well, that usually involved command blocks with meta data tags.

I set a worldguard region with health regen and food regen flags turned on at 1 second intervals in the maze so that may take care of low food at the beginning.

This sounds a bit like the general inventory glitchyness that TFC has on KCauldron. Putting stuff in player's inventory through the use of Bukkit plugins is a pain and even vanilla creative mode is bugged when you try to middle-mouse-click a block to select it. It then often turns up double in your inventory, but the selected block doesn't work. You need to select the second block. It's a bit of a mess.

I'm not sure there's anything we can do about it at this point except warn players about the issue. Maybe Jiro has a bright idea?

Solved.

It's an item update problem. The block is invisible on the hotbar when harvested (or perhaps it was never placed). In any case right clicking the item slot a few times or moving it manually updates it back into the hotbar.

Hmm, interesting... J indicated that he just installed TnFC with default settings. I see the default is a white list of blocks for the tornadoes to pick up and yes, ice blocks are on it. But chests are not and mine got picked up, twice... (the second time was when I put them 2 blocks below ground level, I was really hoping that would solve the problem.

I've almost finished my house now. If a tornado comes, rips off the door and picks up a chest, I'm building a bunker

I like the visual aspect of tornadoes. I do not like the griefing aspect of tornadoes, especially on a server where the effect quickly becomes amplified due to the cumulative nature of it randomly picking up blocks.

In the Weather2 config the grablist is set to the following:

S:Storm_Tornado_GrabList=planks, leaves
Clearly it's not just picking up planks and leaves. So I'm setting overcastmode to true. That should run vanilla weather on the server but let clients do whatever visually.

# If true, lets server side do vanilla weather rules, weather2 will only make storms when server side says 'rain' is on
B:overcastMode=true

I don't think it makes sense. They wouldn't be able to grow them anyway (unless almost on the equator) and when another springtime comes, they will be able to find their own. It's a bit of an adjustment to play on a 360-days server instead of 96-days, but it has its charms ;)

That would be awesome! You could set it to accept stones of any kind and give players some starting stones. They could trade them for food and if they run into hard times later, come back with more stone to trade. Give only 1 or 2 kinds of food so people are not discouraged from running their own farms later on. Maybe one kind of vegetable and one kind of protein or just ready made sandwiches? Not grain and not fruit that allows to make alcohol/vinegar, that would be too OP.

Possible bug : The Hardcore quest book -> stone age -> Firepits

Even though fullfilling the 100% criteria and it being marked as complete. I am unable to turn it in and claim reward.

My inventory was full  sorry for the false alarm. I will leave this here just in case someone else would encounter this.

is this current?

Donor TechnodeFirmaCraft Server
Each Town may have a maximum of:

20 total adult animals. This means any selection of adult animals that totals to 20.
Each animal needs to be in its own 16x16 pen in it own chunk fenced in, the fence can have small sections for gates.
4 plots of tilled soil farmland or berry bushes. This means 1024 blocks. They may be in more than three plots, but 1024 max squares.
12 fruit trees. (All kinds allowed: red apple, green apple, banana, peach, etc.)
1 of each kind of anvil. (copper, bronze, wrought iron, steel, etc.
50 total machines per town, not counting storage devices.
10 outposts
10 /sethome points per player

Since we do not have a donor TnFC server it is not current. I've changed the server page a couple of days ago but I haven't updated the information elsewhere like the TFC forums and external server pages.

We haven't settled on limitations for the TnFC server yet. I'm guessing we can copy the TFC ones, but we should probably also add TnFC specific limitations since it adds a ton of stuff to the game which can potentially get out of hand very quickly. We may want to do some testing with Opis to get an idea how much resources certain machines take up.

One thing I'm already sure of is that we do not want chunk loaders. I should probably see if I can disable that open computers upgrade server side.

Uhm, I think something is off. Joined the server to try out TnFC but can't get past the initial maze. Can't use the portal at the end, and also the server keeps me informing about being auto-promoted to group freebie endlessly, also default group again. Anyone else experienced this?

//Edit: Jiro fixed that. Thanks :)

You should be in the mod group. Did you try relogging?

I think I'm going to ditch the Ontime promotion thing or perhaps reduce the time for promotion to maybe 4 hours or so. We force new TFC players to be on the server 12 hours before they were allowed to create a town. This was done to encourage newbies to join existing towns rather than creating dozens of ghost towns around spawn. Since player count has decreased substantially I don't think we need to worry about that too much now.

- The Enertron is open and Revamped. It's setup to accept all kinds of rocks and distribute a couple types of food depending on the accepted rock. Thanks to the new mods and much more experience with command blocks than I had on TFC several years back, the system shouldn't break down or get sluggish. Feel free to try and break it and abuse it so I can fix any possible exploits or bugs (without breaking it physically as a mod/admin of course)

- Spawn updated a bit with fancy signs (WIP) and admin NPCs.

Lockette will probably need an update on what's lockable. Many TFC item values are shifted in TnFC, and TnFC introduced many new item inventory types we should probably see about locking.

Thanks for fixing the Enertron :)

I thought Lockette already had item IDs for TnFC configured? Did you encounter stuff you couldn't lock?
From the Lockette config:

Yesterday I saw some people chatting on the server about the TFC's years length being long. Do we need to change this? Also, can we change this safely without TFC breaking?

Many of the scripts/cmd blocks/misc things had shifted IDs so I figured the lockette needed fixing as well. If that's already taken care of then no worries there.

Changing dates/times can cause a lot of problems, but the problems should be contained to food decay, planted crops, and natural spawned crops. Anybody who has been play testing may experience sudden loss of food, but moving forward newly harvested food should be fine.

As for making the change from current 360 to old 96 (or whatever the old calendar was), I don't play regularly enough to have a good opinion on this.

There is one advantage of 360 over 96 days year - in 360 you can plant crops and come back to harvest them next day. In 96 you have to just play for half a day to plant and collect, especially if you kept the default TnFC multiplier of crop growth time (1.2). Other than that it's all the same. If we want to change it, now is the time, before anybody has any serious amounts of food stored.

Also, J, I remember a conversation (when this thead started) about maybe adding a second home point to Freebie servers. Did you decide something about that?

I would have to disagree about the amount of play time for crop harvesting. Lonely old me has been playing off and on for a few days and by yesterday afternoon my plants were only at about 60%. In that time, I had harvested a very large amount of wild plants on my journey and I had eaten through them in that amount of play time. I am convinced that I will have to double my crops to sustain me for the off seasons now. That being said, if there are to be large population towns, they would have to maintain massive plots of land to sustain a thriving population. Either that or ration out play time to conserve food since the server doesn't tick if there arent players online.

All of that in consideration, if that's what we are interested in doing, let's keep it up. I am just impatient sometimes.

One the subject of rules and lag prevention, I feel as if the donor rules should be ok for the time being. This is a mod pack that has very little to no followers anymore. The newest versions of Minecraft run better on poor hardware and also the population of players in general has diminished. I do however expect for there to be changes to my attitude once we have large factories with machinery running, but without chunk loaders we should be ok for a while.

InsaneJ

@Jiro. I thik they were added on the previous TnFC server. I haven't checked to see if the current IDs match those.

@Chogata. The TFC server restrictions need to be revised I think. Currently I see no problem allowing a few more 'homes'.

TFC farm plots tend to lag quite a lot which is why we limited them in the past. I think you are correct about player numbers and that we probably won't be rocking 20~30 players during peak moments. That being said I'm not sure having to wait several days for your crops to be ready is fun. It may encourage trade among towns but that only works with a more active community. Another thing that might influence things: will food production change when machinery comes into play?

Then again. I remember tons of newbies complaining about the food situation on the TFC server. We can either ignore those, help them or change things a little bit. I'm leaning towards the latter. But again, I don't play TFC so I'll go with what you guys prefer.

My 2 cents.

Having lived though the autumn and winter killing animals for meat and seaweed for vegetable, whatever i found in the wild for fruit, i was out of fruit before late winter. i was playing 8+ hrs a day since i was sick for a week. I planted in early spring the multitude of crops i had accumulated on my journey. i just harvested them day or 2 ago but a lot is still not yet finished. this would be 4+ days or growing and my only get 1 cycle of growing. i am replanting on different areas of the farm and i have used fertilizer on some of the squares to see differences. I may have enough food to last winter but that is uncertain. in the end we will all have too much food how fast we get there makes other things easier and start faster.

as long as we can avoid the food decay issue i can support change, but i am a positive vote for either right now.

Chogata
27th January 2019, 17:26
Okay, first, I see that at some point TnFC authors reversed to 1.0 growth multiplier. With that, on 360 days server, crops are slow to grow. I agree that it might become a problem in a town with a large (-ish) population.

We can revert to 96 easily, I think - change the year length AND change the decay factor to no decay at all. Leave it for a couple of days so each of us that already has some food stores can log in and "tick" them. Then change to regular decay again. This is all theoretical, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. And if it doesn't ... well, though luck. We ARE beta testers after all ;)

I appreciate the current time setting. Anyone can fish or milk cows at anytime. Also, in the donor tnfc server, we could store sandwiches in Jabba storage barrels and it froze their decay. Yes, when you picked them up from the barrel the food would rapidly go bad but you had the time to eat the sandwich before that happened. That is how I survived the rapid food decay in last server. Maybe I won't have to do that with the current time setting.

So one point of view would be that faster speed may encourage bug abuse.

Chogata

For an advanced player getting some food will never be a problem. No matter if you do it old-fashioned way (all those pickles, yum!) or use something TnFC specific, you can store enough food to last through a winter. For starters, you always have fish, deer and seaweed (not milk, you need grain for that and being settled somewhere already).

The biggest problem will be big towns, because with 3 chunks of plots&bushes you might not have enough yield to feed 10 people later. That's something I didn't think about. I always played TnFC on servers with 1-2, max 3 people towns. If HD TnFC goes the way of HD TFC and has some big towns, they might have food problem. That means either reverting to 96 days year or granting more plot/bush chunks to big towns.

I don't know if it's a coincidence but, the server goes down when I log in. I was digging down and it crashed yesterday. This morning the dynmap was loading so I thought it might be back up, so I logged in and immediately after the server closed again.

Error message :

Connection Lost
Internal Exception: java.io.IOException: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host

Then the dynmap goes down : 503 Service Unavailable.

Alright, sorry for causing that. I will wait for a greenlight from a mod in this thread before trying to log back in. I don't want to disrupt other players experience by causing crashes everytime I try to log on. My position may have to be reset to spawn if it has anything to do with the crash.

Edit : I tried again, and it made the server crash again. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I am right next to the southern map border and that I inadvertently made the server generate new terrain.

I've edited your player .dat file and moved you back to spawn.

I visited the coordinates you were last at, spawning at your town and moving south, and triggered the crash as well.

Alright, therefore I will not head south from my base ever again.

Moving my character back to spawn allowed me to connect again.

Jiro_89

I've regenerated a large area from the town to the southern border, no change.

I've done large radius butcher commands, no change.

I ran global hostile mob butcher commands with my render range at minimum moving from the town to the south border. That seems to have fixed it. I would venture a guess it was a mob, possibly zombie based on the crash report, that had bad data. However, I don't know how it was triggered or how to reproduce it.

Sariak
29th January 2019, 02:53
It's happening again in a completely different area. This time, I was mining north east of spawn. When it crashed I looked at the dynmap and there was a zombie face close to my character. I am therefore stuck in a crash loop again. When I log in I crash the server. It's a pretty strange behavior.

It probably has no link with the problem but I wear a zombie head in-game as a hat.

Edit: on my 3rd attempt at relogging, I had enough time to type /town spawn, but its likely if anyone visits the coordinates where I crashed, that it will crash again.

It looks to me like the Special AI mod is causing these crashes. This mod has no more updates for Minecraft 1.7.10 so I'm going to try removing it from the server and see if that changes anything.

Please remove the Special AI mod from your clients before joining. I would recommend creating a sub folder in your mods folder, something like "_blah", and moving the mod file there.

I've encountered a few client crashes that seem to be related to Fastcraft + Optifine. I recommend updating Fastcraft from version 1.23 to version 1.25. You can download Fastcraft here:

Zombies are only taking 1 damage during the day.

I forgot to ask. Do they deal vanilla amounts of damage when they attack?

We could consider installing a plugin that allows us to change a bunch of values for mobs including how much damage they take and receive for various events.

https://dev.bukkit.org/projects/mythicmobs
https://www.mythicmobs.net/manual/doku.php/databases/misc/damagemodifiers

Chogata

IDK about zombies, but spiders and skellies certainly deal non-vanilla damage. I can try to get hit on (LOL :p ) by a zombie later today.

Dourne
30th January 2019, 16:53
never noticed how much vanilla dmg is. skelleys spiders, bears, polar bears all hit like freight trains. skellies you HAVE to get close before they spot you and hit you due to the knockback. spiders any obstacle helps. bears and polar bears are impossible unless you have 10-20 javelins or deep water. dmg from bears avg's around 200. some of us dont even have 1000 health (compared to the bears 4000 health) and it takes 20-30 hits to kill them.

InsaneJ

How about the damage you as a player do to the mobs?

How about the damage you as a player do to the mobs?

iron comes in around 166, copper did around 50 if i remember.

Stone Javelins did 180-197 and it took 21ish of them from a distance greater than 10 blocks.

Chogata

A zombie does 20something to me when I wear one piece of armor (hide chestplate, fell off a skelly once).

2-3 hits from me (bronze axe) kill a zombie.

But zombies are tame. I didn't check exactly, but skellies and spiders do much more and I confirm about bears - 200+ damage to players.

Saw the post on reddit regarding you spinning up a TNFC server. Would be happy to assist with any testing and could possibly update the client for issues. I saw the Fastcraft issue so that's something I could probably put out a wee update to fix. It's been awhile since I've played but I do have quite a bit of insight into how TNFC and TFC ticks, although my kCauldron experiments always led me to abandon the effort.

Thanks for taking the time to look into some of the issues we've encountered. It's much appreciated :) I'm keeping track of our issues here:
https://happydiggers.net/showthread.php?2753-TechNode-Firmacraft-Server-known-issues

So far it's nothing too bad really. We know KCauldron and TFC have a certain amount of incompatibility, but for the most part we've been able to work around those in a satisfactory enough manner. And some things don't really need fixing, we'll just chalk those up to the server's charm. I'm optimistic we can do the same for TnFC. Most stuff we already figured out for our Donor TnFC 2.x server a long time ago. It's not perfect, but it doesn't have to be for our purposes.

There are a few mods that have updates available. I don't know your update process. If it helps I can provide a list of mods and links to download pages.

If you'd like to hop on our server and try things out then you're welcome to do so. Just let me know your in-game name so I can add you to the whitelist.

IGN is same as here. AnodeCathode. I did bounce off the whitelist once so it's there.

Any updates we do to the client pack will be pretty limited. Bunsan and I both considered the pack complete but if something comes up that causes issues I can certainly look at a little fixup. Thankfully the ATLauncher update process is very easy-going and will let me push out the update without any oversight or issues.

do we want every nook and cranny issue here or the other thread?

rain is disabling my forges (ones i use with my blast furnaces). I have a fence post on the top to block the rain but the rain is blocking every other block around it thus diabling my forge.

Please report any issues you encounter. This doesn't seem like a bug though.

From the TFC wiki:

Forges must have proper ventilation in order to work. Forges can be exposed directly to the sky for ventilation, but will stop working during rain or snow.

If you want to keep up the ventilation and stop rain at the same time, you have to use something like lumber or chiselled block to block rain. At least that's how I got that working in TFC usually, not sure what is possible in TnFC. Otherwise just make L-shaped chimneys.

I tested in single player.

I put raw venison in an alloy furnace and another in a chest side by side.
Then I skipped like 10 days.
The venison in the chest decayed as normal.
The venison in the alloy furnace did not decay at all - HOWEVER, when I removed it from the alloy furnace the decay caught up.

Therefore, I will keep testing on the server, im pretty sure decay doesn't catch up.

Anyone else can test too, the recipe for an alloy furnace is just 8 brick blocks.

EDIT: My raw venison did decay rapidly when I removed it on the server too. However my 8.4oz raw fish doesn't. So maybe fishes don't decay in there.

Issue: Blast Furnace ventilation.
can someone explain why this setup works on the freebie tfc server and not tnfc?
edit: The Blast Furnace itself seems to be causing the issue.

This would be close to normal the test would need to be at least a few days. i took 48 hours off and watched sandwiches disappear. i will stick a fresh sandwich in the alloy furnace and check it next week sometime.

Wait, guys. Decay protection time. It's set to 8 hours by default. So, if you keep food anywhere and it's not ticked for more than RL 8 hours, after it "catches up" on ticking, it will decay only some small amount. This is to protect "offline" food. It works the same in TFC. So 24 hours will not give any results anyway.
What needs to be done is for someone to keep food in blast furnace for 6-7 hours in a chunk that is loaded all the time (or is loaded constantly every few minutes or so) and then take the food out and see what happens. My guess is then the food will decay rapidly.

I found a visual glitch with Immersive Engineering Reinforced Blast Furnace.

When I layed out the multi block structure of 3x3 reinforced bricks with a hopper on top everything looked normal.

Then I clicked on it with the IE hammer and it turned into an ARC furnace (way bigger) and it was even overlapping through solid blocks.

Until I broke a block that was close, it updated to the proper Reinforced Blast furnace texture.

Right-clicking creosote glass bottles into tfc barrels often cause me to disconnect.

EDIT: it happened to me many times in the past and it seemed to be client sided. It was when I held right click to spam the bottles on the barrel, I would then pickup the barrel to make the creosote oil dissapear, replace it in the same spot and repeat. However I just tried again, and it doesnt do it anymore.

I tried crafting a Framing table from @Better Storage to see if I could get into drawer technology even though the recipes didn't show up in NEI, I tried it since I can make them in single player test world. When putting the the ingredients in to craft it, we can see the pink/black (missing texture) icon show up in the result slot for about 1 second before it disappears. I tried being quick enough to click on it and it caused the client to completely crash/shutdown with no error messages.

I think the question can be asked, are drawers and drawer controllers disabled on purpose on the server ?
If so, should something be done to prevent disabled recipes from "appearing to work".

Looks like storage drawers isn't active on the server. It is not in the mods folder from what I can see... Not sure if that is a dependency for this issue, but looks to be the driving mod for the framing table.

Looks like the server lost connection with the database and couldn't resolve if you were jailed. The script forces a relog into the database if that happens though. I had to write the script to assume that the connection was active at player login, since checking when the player joined allowed them to join if the database was down...

Comparing the current TFC Freebie config vs the TnFC config I don't see any other notable differences other than the amount of days and some minor tweaks to TnFC and new config options that were added to TFC after our config was first generated.

Diff of TFC vs TnFC TerraFirmaCraft config file (https://happydiggers.net/diff/index.php?compare=R5YVhvwIsQuPYlpU3L3b3ysYvj4BRtzb nsgqp1khzs)

So I'm guessing there's not much more to it than changing I:yearLength= from 360 to 96 and restarting the server, right?

From the looks of it, yes, it is all you need to modify so you can change the lenght of the year.

Here are two links for reference too: Configuration (https://1710-wiki.terrafirmacraft.com/Configuration)and Calendar (https://1710-wiki.terrafirmacraft.com/Calendar)

Also keep this in minds when changing that:
For the majority of config options, it is perfectly safe to make changes to use on an existing save. The only exceptions are changing onionsAreGross, which will result in all onions/rutabagas items in inventories being deleted; and yearLength, which when modified will drastically change the current calendar date of the world. Servers will also temporarily overwrite client configs while the player is connected, so users do not need to make any changes to their files in order to experience the changes applied on a server.

Set up a few blocks far east of spawn (closest chunk allowed by the configs) for people to try and break, switch, steal from. Only protection is the Towny built in protections, so we will see how easy it is for non-OP people to grief/steal stuff.

In setting this up, I ran into an old bug that I can't remember how I fixed. Blue power gates freeze your game and fill your log with render errors. Not sure if it is a shaders mod bug, since that is the only real "extra" mod that I have running.

*Edit* I have confirmed that disabling shaders mod fixes the blue power problem. I love my shaders, but I love my logic gates more!

Was that as an admin/op? OP has all perms even if you're set to default via permissions.

In my testing with a couple of non-OP players in the Enertrons, I had to enable switch in the particular chunk to outsiders and then control things I didn't want getting 'switched' via worldguard. So by default it was already off.

We'll discuss this here to keep that thread clean: just a yes/no and opinion thread :)

love the server. ready for public....soon.

since last weekend i have been having what i can only describe as latency issues. This is not lag as it is not affecting other people playing. nor do i know how to diagnose what may be causing the issue. i can say that i am rubber banding, broken blocks reappear, both with a reg pickaxe and the drill. i use the drill and wait anywhere from 5-30+ seconds for the 9 block area to catch up and disappear. sometimes the blocks broken by the drill then appear as cobble and fall. with 45%+ pickaxe i can arguably mine faster than the drill. on the previous server we had i remember mining for miles without issue i loved the drill. i dont seem to have any other issues but once it starts i end up logging due to frustration. let me know what else you may need from me.

You say it's not affecting other players. Does that mean other players standing right next to you, or players elsewhere on the server? If it's the latter then I think we should try to have someone you join and see if they lag as well.

Other than that, have you excluded the usual suspects?

Update graphics drivers.
Update Java.
Use OptiFine and Fastcraft.
Allocate 4GB of memory to TnFC's Java instance.
Tune down the fancy graphics a bit. Disable better leaves, particles, anti-aliasing, filtering, reduce chunk updates to 1 in Optifine, etc.

And of course, what kind of PC are you running this on?

did this twice(from ATL). 2nd time i deleted the folders even. left out mods that gave me install problems the last and first reinstall times. same issue happens from the start. i load in and try to turn the camera left or right and get bounced to the original view. this happens for 30-60 seconds then i try to move. i move so far and bounce to original spot again for 30-60 more seconds after 3-5 min of standing still i can somewhat move around. if i try to access any storage the action takes 30-120 seconds. once it catches us to my actions i can again somewhat use it. i would not say normal operation though. teleporting to home or outposts breaks it and i start the cycle all over.

If you have this issue on both the TFC and the TnFC server then it could also just be a bandwidth issue. TFC is known to require a lot more upload bandwidth from clients than vanilla Minecraft does. Could you do a speed test?

On a different note, we still need to establish realistic building limits. I'd like to follow what we've done for the TFC server and set limits on a per town basis.

DOM, you've had a lot of experience building stuff. Any recommendations?
I'm thinking about 1 major building project per town like the miner from Mekanism and those huge immersive engineering machines.

As far as the TFC stuff goes I'd like to increase those limitats to the following:

10 total adult animals. This means any selection of adult animals that totals to 20.
Each animal needs to be in its own 16x16 pen in it own chunk fenced in, the fence can have small sections for gates.
3 plots of tilled soil farmland or berry bushes. This means 1024 blocks. They may be in more than three plots, but 1024 max blocks.
10 fruit trees. (All kinds allowed: red apple, green apple, banana, peach, etc.)
1 of each kind of anvil. (copper, bronze, wrought iron, steel, etc.
3 outposts
3 /sethome points per player

Chunk loaders of any kind are not allowed. This also includes keeping chunks loaded with redstone.

I'd also like to remove the teleport cool down.

Not sure what this is saying... Only 1 of each major machine? 1 large building with many machines?

I am not sure what the IE machines take up in server load, but they seem to build into one single entity after they are complete so it might not be too bad. I have not had any slowdowns from running machines, but I have however experienced slowdowns (may be client side) from the IE external heaters flickering. Those heaters need a constant source of RF if they are active and if there isnt enough, the heater flickers on and off producing lighting updates rapidly.

On the other hand, I know that the AMP server massively slowed down (local client) when the Mekanism building loaded. We do have a slight advantage since the Mekanism machines are the last tier of the tech tree, so they wont be in every base until you make it to that tech (personally I have not made it there yet). The disadvantage is that the machines are easily crammed into a small space and offer a tremendous amount of production capability, so once players make it to that point, most of their big IE machines will be replaced with multiples of Mekanism machines that server the same (or better) function.

With all of this said, I dont feel as if I have enough information to dictate the limits to machines... I tend to play with bare minimums and little automation, so I wouldnt have the experience either.

My suggestions/questions/fixes in green (the best of the colors):

10 total adult animals. This means any selection of adult animals that totals to 20. 10 or 20? FYI many recipes need leather...
Each animal needs to be in its own 16x16 pen in it own chunk fenced in, the fence can have small sections for gates. I understand the need for this, but is there allowance to control the animal bumping with another method? A single player in a town only has so much space and would need to allocate a large portion (over 50%) of their plots to housing 20 animals.
3 plots of tilled soil farmland or berry bushes. This means 1024 blocks. They may be in more than three plots, but 1024 max blocks.
10 fruit trees. (All kinds allowed: red apple, green apple, banana, peach, etc.) There are a few recipes that require fruit tree saplings, so this will have to be closely monitored. I have felt the need to expand my fruit tree farm recently.
1 of each kind of anvil. (copper, bronze, wrought iron, steel, etc.
3 outposts The # of outposts could be larger since there are a LOT more resources to gather, but on the other hand, if the player chooses not to claim the mine it should be fair game.
3 /sethome points per player

I'd also like to remove the teleport cool down.

I have been using TPs a lot since I have OP perms and would have to say that TPs on TFC are quite OP, but are a necessary evil for multiplayer. On my singleplayer instance I was forced to build tremendous transportation networks and loved it. I do plan on making a railway network with my favorite mod ever (railcraft) and distribute beer to the masses.

InsaneJ

About the machines. I was thinking about the huge multi-block machines. What I'm looking for is a reasonable and easy way to limit the amount of stuff per town. From experience we know pipes and bad wiring are TPS killers. I don't want to limit the amount of pipes or wires per town, that would be crazy. Instead we could give directions to players on how to optimize those things if they become a problem.

Alternatively we could install Opis (if it works with our TnFC server) and see which plots use the most CPU time. If certain chunks stand out we can talk to the owners of those chunks to work things out.

My idea was 10 adult animals per town. We can increase the plots per town member from 16 to 25. Land isn't exactly in short supply.

How about 5 outposts?

DOM
10th March 2019, 22:50
Case by case and Opis checks sounds like a great idea if it works. I think that the players on the server should know that their automation setups have an effect on others and that they may have to reduce their footprint if requested to. I know that we aren't talking AMP levels of automation here and the amount of materials being processed is much lower, so we might be ok with a Laissez-faire approach.

How about 5 outposts?

new boot drive up and running have not tested tnfc performance yet. plots on tnfc are currently 30 i thought?. definitely need more than 16 imo. outposts vs home points (5v3 or 3v5) a total or 8 teleports should be sufficient for most everyone.

I am fixed for now. will monitor and possibly change the game location to my new drive if i encounter any more problems.

that was short lived to a point

Big machines almost always have just one active (TE) block, the rest is decoration. So no need to limit them more than small ones.

I think people that will seriously play a lot and make it to really advanced stage will be the more mature ones, so something to measure load/lag in a chunk and a general rule about downsizing on admin request should be enough.

Also, I remember the official TnFC server (when it was still on) had a reset scheduled every 6(?) hours. There was a countdown from 10 minutes (10,5,1,30 sec, 15 sec, 10 sec, 5 sec, zero) so nobody was surprised when it happened. There were no limits on building stuff and at its peak the server had 10+ players active at the same time, some lag sometimes occurred, but nothing drastic. I suspect this setup was made to counteract poor garbage collecting behaviours.

I know some people will say restarts are a pain, but personally, if I had to choose between more strict limits or restarts, I would pick restarts.

As for the proposed rules, 3 plots don't mean 1024 blocks, it's 4 plots ;)

This looks like some kind of rendering issue. I know I'm boring with my advices, but get rid of Optifine and see if you get the same crashes (unless you already did and it did not help, but I can't find that info in your posts).

We can double the amount of plots per town member to 32. This will however result in monster towns pretty with huge outposts quickly. Might be fun :)

The point I was making is that I'm looking of an easy way to limit the amount of stuff players build. Big machines are easy to point out and if you only have one of each you only have infrastructure for one of each. But doing it with Opis should also be possible although that would mean more staff involvement.

Restarting the server won't solve lag due to having too much stuff running. It'll only temporarily solve memory creep. So far I don't think we've had many problems with that. But if needed we can always start restarting the server more often.

In my proposal for limitations I only edited the first values, not what came later in text. The whole thing was copy/pasted, then I changed the first value. I'm sorry for your confusion, guys :p (Yes, yes, I know I caused it. Sorry!)

Don't get rid of Optifine, update FastCraft :)

i did drop optifine but still had the stutter issues. will readd and update fastcraft.

improvement. its now restricted to 20-30 immediately after load/teleport but after that i can move eat drink interact normally. optifine is D6 and fastcraft is .25

Whoops. Mods, not plugins :B You can't just leave out server side mods in your client. Sorry about that.

You seem to have everything as up to date as you can get it except your OS. You're still running Windows 7. I would never suggest upgrading to Windows 10 (it's so bad). But perhaps you could give something like Linux Mint a go? I'm running on Linux for a few months now and it's been great. You could try running it of a USB stick (or perhaps an old HD) to see if it works for you.

The ATLauncher.jar works as you'd expect. Games running via Steam work just as they do on Windows for the most part. And TnFC doesn't seem to crash because of a bad weather mod :B

Of course that's quite a bit of a hassle just to run a mod pack. I could just try removing weather 2 from of the server. Since I've disabled the tornadoes all it does is let the client to render some 3D cloud stuff. It's not like we're missing out on much if we would remove it.

Thoughts?

I am all for removing the weather mod. The localized weather has some incompatibilities with other mods as there are a few that require Minecraft rainfall which is disabled with the weather mod.

I have removed weather 2 from the server. You may remove weather2-1.7.10-2.6.1_tnfc.jar from your clients.

I'm fiddling with permissions a bit. Server may be down intermittently. Reason for this is that I would like to set the amount of allowed outpost through permissions rather than having to monitor it through Botje's naughty chats reports.

I've changed the TnFC specific rules to the following:

Freebie TechnodeFirmaCraft Server
No chunk loaders allowed. Any kind of chunk loading without the player present must be avoided.
Player builds server CPU usage are fair use. Staff will determine what is fair use. If one of your builds lags the server, you may be asked to change things.
Each Town may have a maximum of:

20 adult animals total. Each animal needs to be in its own 16x16 pen in it own chunk fenced in, the fence can have small sections for gates.
4 plots of tilled soil farmland or berry bushes. This means 1024 blocks. They may be in more than three plots, but 1024 max. Can be mixed between the two.
10 fruit trees. (All kinds allowed: red apple, green apple, banana, peach, etc.)
1 of each kind of anvil. (copper, bronze, wrought iron, steel, etc.)
5 outposts
5 /sethome point per player
no cool down on teleports.

Towns get 32 plots per player.
I'm removing the cool down on teleports.
I'm reducing the amount of time before players are allowed to create a new town to 2 hours. Reasoning is that two hours isn't that long and hopefully players will have traveled outwards of spawn a bit by then.

These changes will carry over to the TFC server as well, soon-ish.

This sounds really good and awesome! Exept for one bit thats for me a bit insane! (pun not intended) and that is the bit with the animals. I can't see myself building one chunk pens for every singel animal I have. Just built four pens, each being 1 chunk, to hold four animals in each pen (the amount of animals I have of each kind). With this rule it means that it should only be enought for one kind of animal that I have? Are animals really that bad for lag or whatever? :/

InsaneJ
18th March 2019, 09:08
They are limitation per town. For a single player you don't need 20 adult animals. That's just a waste of resources.

As with most rules, they exist because sometime somewhere someone did something that made the rule a necessity.

The server sais you have NEI installed in your client. Did you try to unhide it? I think it's "O" while you're in your inventory.

Otherwise: did you try turning it off and on again?

This sounds really good and awesome! Exept for one bit thats for me a bit insane! (pun not intended) and that is the bit with the animals. I can't see myself building one chunk pens for every singel animal I have. Just built four pens, each being 1 chunk, to hold four animals in each pen (the amount of animals I have of each kind). With this rule it means that it should only be enought for one kind of animal that I have? Are animals really that bad for lag or whatever? :/

What I did is much smaller pens ( 2x2 or 3x3 ) at a chunk intersection so that Animals are still in seperate chunks. It makes it so you can't have more than 4 pens at any intersection, but they take less space.
