You can see the reasoning on the Server disconnect problem thread. It's not about server lag, though it does help, it's about the tile entity threshold. Essentially when the threshold is reached most if not everyone will be timed out and there doesn't seem to be a way to avoid that, which is why we instituted new regulations limiting tile-entities. Server outposts will be edited as well, but since you're no longer a builder you won't be able to do that.
I see. But there's no bushes in the list of the most numerous entities. And there are many fruit trees at spawn, the most popular place where people meet. So I think it's the first place that should be optimized.
Don't you think that many NPCs at spawn could also produce many unnecessary recods?
